More About Me and My Blog

I am a 23-year old Aerospace Engineering graduate student living in Newport News, VA.  This past year, I moved up from Raleigh, NC and am trying to adapt to a new city and everything that comes with that.  I am a distance education student through NC State University, and I am a die-hard Wolfpack football and basketball fan (it seems like they try to test my loyalty on a regular basis).  I would rather be at the beach/riding my bike/camping/climbing/grilling out than in my kitchen/at my computer any day of the week.

I am always in the mood for mac-n-cheese, pulled pork, Carolina peaches, chocolate, coffee, and sushi (hmm... one of these things is not like the other).  Oh yea, and ice cream.  I try to get in my apple-a-day, but a lot of time this involves peanut butter/nutella, and occasionally it involves apple sauce.

It took me a while, but I embrace my Southern-food roots.  For the most part, anyway.  I still don't understand why anyone would eat onion pie or barbeque slaw.  But I do strongly believe that "bbq" should only be pulled pork with vinegar-based sauce.

You will see a lot of dishes on my site that were either inspired by or adapted from a recipe from Smitten Kitchen and/or Alton Brown  Thats just a fact of life.

I have never met a blue cheese, olive, or lobster that I actually wanted to eat, or enjoyed eating.  I know, its strange, and I am hoping someone can eventually expand my horizons.  But for now, you won't find any of these things in my kitchen (or on my blog).

You will never see a recipe on this site that includes ingredients like artificial sweeteners or low fat/reduced fat/fat free products.  A little sugar and butter never hurt anyone!  If you want to make these substitutions when you make one of my recipes, I encourage you to do so.  I even encourage you to post what you did and how it turned out in the comments section, since another reader might want to do the same thing, and might benefit from seeing that it had/had not been successful for someone else!

Finally, I want you to feel free to make suggestions for recipes.  If you want to see a specific recipe, or just a type of dish, posted, please let me know!  You can either comment on this post, shoot me an email, or just harass me next time you see me.  I want this to be interactive for all you guys taking your time to read my blog!
